The Series 66 exam has 100 multiple-choice questions. You have 2 hours and 30 minutes (150 minutes) to complete the exam. Of the 100 questions, 10 are unscored pretest questions.
You need a score of 73% to pass the Series 66 exam. You must answer 73 out of 100 scored questions correctly.
The Series 66 exam costs $177 USD. It is administered by NASAA and requires you to have passed or be registered for the Series 7.
The Series 66 covers four main topics: Economic Factors and Business Information (5%), Investment Vehicle Characteristics (20%), Client Investment Recommendations and Strategies (30%), and Laws, Regulations, and Guidelines (45%).
The Series 66 combines the content of the Series 63 and Series 65 into a single exam. However, the Series 66 requires you to also pass the Series 7, while the Series 65 can be taken as a standalone exam without any prerequisites.
The Series 66 is ideal for professionals who already have or plan to obtain their Series 7 and want to become both a registered securities agent and an investment adviser representative at the state level.
The Series 66 is considered challenging because it covers both securities agent regulations (Series 63 content) and investment adviser rules (Series 65 content) in a single exam. The laws and regulations section carries the heaviest weight at 45%.
