Certified in Cybersecurity (CC) is ISC2's entry-level certification. It validates foundational knowledge of security principles, governance, identity and access management, networking and cloud security, and security operations — with no work experience required.
The CC exam uses Computerized Adaptive Testing (CAT) with 100–125 questions and a 2-hour time limit. The passing score is 700 out of 1,000.
The exam outline updated on September 1, 2026 covers five domains: Security Principles (24%), Security Governance (17.3%), Identity and Access Management (IAM) Concepts (20%), Networking and Cloud Security Concepts (21.3%), and Security Operations and Incident Response (17.3%).
No. CC has no experience requirement, which makes it a natural first step before SSCP or CISSP. ISC2 recommends it for students, career changers, and IT professionals moving into security.
The CC exam fee is $199 USD. After you pass, certification is maintained with a $50 annual maintenance fee and 45 CPE credits per three-year cycle.
CC is the entry point with no experience requirement. SSCP is the hands-on practitioner credential (1 year of experience), and CISSP is the senior-level credential (5 years). Many candidates use CC to build fundamentals, then move to SSCP or Security+ before CISSP.
